What is a Newborn Session?
We offer two types of newborn photography, traditional posed sessions as well as lifestyle sessions.
Posed newborn sessions are designed for babies who are brand spanking new. If you want those super adorable, very posed baby pictures, your baby should be between 7 and 14 days old when we capture the images. These sessions take a lot of time as we work at your baby’s pace and allow time for feeding and changing as needed. Please plan ahead and book an approximate window of time before you deliver to make sure there is time in the first couple of weeks to capture those special moments. These sessions can last from 3 to 5 hours, depending on your baby’s needs and how they (and you!) are feeling.
Newborn lifestyle photo sessions are designed for those babies who aren’t quite so new but you still want to capture those tiny baby memories. These sessions can and often do include other siblings and parents – even grandparents, godparents, aunts, uncles and cousins if they live close enough. Remember, we work at your baby’s pace and allow time for feeding and changing as needed. Please plan ahead and book as close to delivery as possible and plan to shoot within 2 to 6 weeks of your baby’s birth. These sessions can last from 3 to 4 hours, depending on your baby’s needs and how they are feeling.
Some things that can help keep baby happy during the session:
- heat – the room they will be in will need to be super warm, like 90 degrees or so
- feedings – this should happen immediately after you arrive at the studio or I arrive at your home
- awake time – try to have some awake time for an hour or two prior to the session start time
- music – white noise or soft music will be played to soothe baby. This is not meant to annoy the parents but sometimes does.
